In Progress

At the beginning of their career, a doctor treats their first patient; a contractor builds their first house; a teacher instructs their first class. Admittedly I don’t have much of a portfolio to call my own despite several years of indirect experience. As I grow into this position, I’ll be able to post samples of my work. Until then, here are a few examples of essays I marked up while enrolled in the proofreading course.

The next file I proofread as part of an editing test where the proofreader is required to adhere to both CMOS and the company’s style guide.

The following are just a few general examples that highlight my experience with proofreading:

  • In my current position I frequently proofread a variety of materials including letters, flyers, signup forms, catalogs, advertisements and order forms.
  • A few years ago a former classmate published a book that they had written. After cracking it open, I soon noticed a few errors. As I continued to read, my eyes were then drawn to a typo. By the time I finished the book, I had a list of several mistakes.
  • A former friend took online courses that required writing several papers on various topics. I was asked to proofread them for errors and ended up copyediting most of the material. They received high scores on all the papers that I helped with.
  • I once visited the website of a local business to learn more about the company. I quickly noticed a few typos, leading me to examine the content on each page. This resulted in finding upwards of a dozen total errors, which were eventually fixed.
